You will need several bath towels and flip flops for the shower, plus soap, shampoo
and toiletries. It's nice to have a large plastic basket to tote it all, but check the
bathroom storage situation first. Some dorm bathrooms have individual cubbies or
lockers, and the size can range from exceptionally narrow to spacious. Check out
the storage situation when you go to orientation and ask if all the dorms have the
same style restroom. Or wait till move-in day and add an appropriate-sized tote
to your inevitable Target/Longs/Big Box Store run. In any case, buy duplicate
toiletries so your teen has extra toothpaste, etc. You may also want to buy
an over-the-door hook for hanging damp towels to dry.
Dorms have extra-long twin beds, so you'll need extra-long twin sheets, pillows,
a cozy duvet or blankets, and a foam pad to add softness to the industrial-strength
mattress. It's mainly the fitted sheet that needs to be extra-long. The top sheet
can be regular length, and you may not even need one if your child uses a duvet
with machine-washable cover. Save a few dollars by using a regular length foam
or egg crate pad - it will be a few inches short, but once the sheets are on,
your kid won't even notice. In our wildest parental fantasies, children do laundry.
In the real world, they'll change the sheets at least once if you include a second set.
And if your child is headed to icy climes, one of those sets could be cozy flannel.
You will need detergent, fabric softener, a laundry bag or hamper, and a jar of
quarters, unless his college uses debit cards in the laundromat plus, a rudimentary
understanding of how a washing machine works and what happens when red T-shirts
are washed with white underwear. (Although Shout Color Catchers actually work.
Mostly. Compare prices on Color Catchers here.) Sending your child off with the
same brand of laundry detergent you use at home will make his sheets, towels and
clothes smell comfortingly familiar.
You will need a desk lamp and bulbs, school supplies (notebooks,
pencils, pens), a graphing calculator, extension cords and a power strip with a surge
protector, a laptop and flash drive. What he probably won't need is a printer. Some
schools want papers turned in electronically, typically through web sites such
as Turnitin.com, which check for plagiarism. Every school offers printing privileges
through the library.
A mini-fridge, microwave (if allowed), electric fan (for dorms without air
conditioning), television and DVD player are considered dorm room essentials. Not
essential: landline and answering machine. But make sure your child checks the dorm
rules first. Some older dorms don't allow microwaves, for example. Urge him to
discuss who’s bringing what with his roommate, and seriously consider renting, rather
than buying the mini-fridge. Summer storage is a major problem, and chances are your
student will have traded up to a real apartment with a real refrigerator
by junior year.

Vinyl on Video:Freddie Foxxx, The Rapper History Left Behind
Freddie Foxxx aka Bumpy Knuckles is a rapper from Long Island,New York. Freddie is a prime example of a missed opportunity. Eric B. (of Eric B. & Rakim fame) was originally going to use Freddie Foxxx as the rap artist on his groundbreaking hit "Eric B. for President", but he wasn't home on that fateful day. Eric B. caught word of another Long Island artist by the name of William Griffin otherwise known as Rakim Allah. The 17 year old changed his name to reflect his allegiance to the Nation of Gods and Earth (5 Percenters). The record was cut and the rest was history. Freddie Foxxx maintains an underground following and does not look to work with major labels out of fear that his work will be commercialized.

Pensions
Sacramento has been known for giving out pensions like its candy.
There is always a problem with pensions, and you give a pension up to another
person who is lacking. For example, for decades police officers
and firefighters in the city of Sacramento has paid nothing out of
pocket towards their retirement accounts. This shows how much the ones
receiving the pension have not put in on their retirement and
benefits. City employees get a lot of benefits that are not answered
for and should be recognized. State employees who benefit should
pitch in on the benefits rather than ride on the taxpayer's back. Also
another example, retirement benefits for city employees as a group has
gone up 37%. To sum up my idea state employees who get benefits are
going to have to start for their retirement and benefits.

MadVillain the collab of producer Madlib, and rapper MF Doom. First making music in 2002, the two having their own solo's career produce madness. MF Doom considered to be the more soulful sound rapper, famous for his Dr. Doom influence first came on the scene with the group KMD. Madlib one of the real authentic producer that has a classic, along with DJ Premier, Q-Tip, and the late J. Dilla. On this we decide to show one of their grooviest sound "All Caps". Having a influence with Marvel type comics, the video has come out to be very creative
Dorothea Puente
The infamous Dorothea Puente, a Sacramento woman who was convicted of several murders, died of natural causes in prison.
Puente owned a boarding house on F Street in downtown Sacramento where she killed her mentally ill customers for their social security checks. In an article in the NY Times Puente stated, “I used to be a very good person at one time.”
This shows that although Puente must have been a very disturbed women to kill amother human, she understood what she was doing at the same time. Puente was convicted in 1993; however, she committed the murders throughout the 80’s.
“She still claims all the victims died of natural causes,” claimed a worker at the prison that Puente was held at.
It seems as though Puente got worse while in jail, she went from being accountable to claiming she was innocent.

Falsified Opportunist Engaging with the Innocent
We have all heard of several instances where the man in charge has become another monster under the bed, placing fear and dread within childrens dreams, its just a shame that it turns out to be a person parents trust enough to place their childs life in their hands.
Elk grove soccer coach Arthur Temblador was taken ino custody without incident and charged with sexual assault with a minor within minutes of 9 p.m. Friday, March 25th. Matt Kawahara sited that the Sacramento Police Department approached a “suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a closed medical building.
It was then that officers found Temblador engaged in sexual activity with a 16-year old girl in the vehicle.
The Elk Grove Everton Football Club's Executive Board denies having any awareness about the activities leading to Tembladors arrest, however, his name was removed from the clubs website, and he has been placed on administrative leave until more appropriate measures must be taken.
Meanwhile startled parents shake their heads in confusion. Russ Perez, 35, of Elk Grove, a parent of one of the club's younger players even commented to say “Temblador has mae a large part in determining the curriculum taught to members of the team.
Another parent in disbelief Perez stated “Temblador also ran a shooting clinic for players of all ages on Friday nights.

Wiz Khalifa
Khalifa is a rapper, and I like to say he “makes anytime of the day feel like
a club.” His music landed him a 1st place spot on the MTV event,
hottest breakthrough artist of 2010. For example, the executive vice
president of the website allhiphop.com, Steve Raze commended the young
up and coming artist.
In Khalifa's eyes he is a rap artist who was
special enough to be recognized as one of the premier breakout artist
of 2010. This shows that in this industry only the ones that put in
a lot of time and effort will prevail in the music industry. It’s
amazing to see a group like Taylor gang do good and breed a rap artist
such as the young Khalifa. For the young star it's easy to fall from
the top but all Wiz is thinking about is making it to the top and play
fair. This shows how much Khalifa has accomplished with his
strong lyrics and directivity of his crowd to love him so much. In
conclusion, Wiz Khalif' still has a way to go to make it to the top
and there seems to be no stopping the t.g.o.d. leader.

Elizabeth Taylor
Elizabeth Taylor was know for her fame as a child actress star, but later recognized later as a talented award-winning film star beauty. This awarding-winning beauty died on May 23 of heart failure. Before her tragic death, she requested that she wanted to be 15 minutes late to her own funeral. Ms.Taylor is know for her award-winning films, but mostly for her fragrances. Ms. Taylor’s most famous fragrance is “White Diamonds.” This perfume reached 61.3 million dollars worldwide last year. I would agree that the world has lost a very important star. Elizabeth Taylor was a start in her own category.
Elizabeth Taylor thought of auctioning love letters?? It is interesting that Ms. Taylor was going to auction off some love letters that she never sent to her first love William Pawley. These letters date back to 1949 when Elizabeth was only 17 years old. When she was alive the letters were worth around $25,000 to $35,000. “Now the amount will double or even triple then what it was before.” says Bobby Livingston the spokesmen of an auction house in New Hampshire. I think that it’s not fair that the letters are still going to be auctioned off even though she is not here anymore. I find it disrespectful to her soul and her fame.
I think that there is going to be a lot of different news about Elizabeth Taylor that is being spread around. I hope people don’t forget what she was recognized for when she was alive and not for the news that’s going around.

Metals Heads
There have been 7 pop stars that are trying to be who they’re not, which are Metal heads. These pop stars are wearing Iron Maiden tees like if
they even know who they are.
When you buy a certain product that deals with an artist, you should
at least know who the artist is because if you don’t then you are most likely to be called a
poser. Lemmy Kilmister quotes, “I wish everybody who had the t-shirt had the album.” When you buy a certain product that deals with music, make sure you know your stuff or else u will be a poser.
When these pop stars know what real metal heads are, they should really
get to know what a true metal head is. A word from our fellow students, Gabe Castaneda quotes, "I think its weak because its not who they are.” A true metal head knows what is real, not like these posers imitating metal heads.
In the end, you should know what a true metal head is; if not then go
to hell! ROCK ON!!!!

The Underground Sound
Digital Underground a band out of the Bay Area known for their funk-a-delic style of music. They created a mass of funky songs. One song we have chosen is one of their greatest, “Doowatchyalike.” This 1989 song was unique in its time, for its cheery sound, and at that time most songs from the west coast were thug- related, “I will Shoot Ya House”, Gangsta Anthems. Consequently the Underground sound was different, having a piano man, violinist, and flutist (instruments not seen much in Hip-Hop). Also the video had a big cast of artists (like Kid &Play, Eazy E, KRS-One, and others. see how many you can spot) having a good time. The video takes place at a party in a hotel. In the hotel you would think it is hectic chaos, surrounded with bodacious, half-dressed women, and random elements like fish flopping around on the dance floor. “Doowatchyalike” is a real party anthem.

Although the college prides itself on diversity, there is a feeling that it is crammed down the throats of its students. If you are white or hispanic there will be plenty of other students that look like you but there aren't many black students. I like the small class sizes, but it can be really limiting to only have two or three instructors within the major. Adjunct profs can be nightmarish and even some of the tenured ones (all doctors) can be annoying.Overall, Whittier gives one a decent education but it's really what the student makes of it. This is not a party school and has no nationally recognized frats; its more of a kick it in the dorms kind of campus. But if you have friends with a car Hollywood and Santa Monica is only 30 mins drive, so you have other options off-campus. Also, the school doesn't have its own study abroad programs, with the exception of Denmark, becuase it is so small.

Student Reviews
Very great school, unlike many of the public schools in California Mount St. Mary's College is different. Here your teachers know you by your name and I have never been in a class where there is more than 25 people (exept maybe if you are in the Nursing Program). The faculty is very nice, expecially the Career Counslers, you can always go to them for help. The only bad thing is that it is on top of a hill and going down to the city can be difficult. Also there needs to be more recognition of this school.

Are uniforms forming or corrupting our society ?
Are uniforms forming or corrupting our society ?
In sacramento High School uniforms are believed to be the key part of being a successful person. Uniforms are enstilled to help us dress appropiately for business and job interviews. But, is their a way that people can be over doing uniforms? There has been many rules created about uniforms as far as jelwery and scarf’s and how they are not allowed in the workforce. But, if you ask any working person scarf’s and jelwery are allowed as long as its not religious based. In schools such as Sac High nothing is really alllowed except for your school shirt, dickies, Sac High sweaters and nothing that contains red or blue. In other schools many people believe that uniforms aren’t a good thing. For example, Isaac Grauke states, “Opponents insist that there is no credible evidence that school uniforms improve school discipline or promote higher achievement.” This shows that uniforms can limit some things from happening, but not all. This is because everyones personality or background usually dictates what type of decisions they make. Many others think that uniforms should be in all schools. Another example is, Isaac Grauke also states, “Some say that a child in a school uniform is more likely to take school seriously. Schools report that school uniforms decrease fighting and violence that arise out of arguments over fashionable clothes.” This is because they believe that fashion will cause problems between people and lose the focus of school. But, instead the actual problem is usual caused by outside forces, and the staff not being able to control the enviroment or students just simply not caring about their education. Their was a poll created at Sac High about uniforms and if there is going to be changes how would they feel. Out of 23 students, 15 said they don’t care, 7 said they are againts uniforms, and 1 said that they like uniforms and believe they do make changes in our school. As far as the new implements of the dress code at Sac High in total 23 students voted and 4 said that it does not bother them(mainly seniors, since they won’t be here next year), 19 said they do not agree and wouldn’t like the changes based on the ones we already have now ,and nobody said they want to try out the new ideas. After researching 69.30% of people voted on youdebate.com polls that they don’t believe uniforms improve schools and 30.70% said they do believe uniforms improve schools. What is the next step, with the future of uniforms.

Our Lives After High School

After high school the lives of Sac.High seniors are just starting to take off. Many of them are planning to attend 4 year colleges and purse the career of their choice.
During an interview, Asia McNairy-Bond*- expressed to me that she’s planning to attend San Francisco State University and work towards her degree in Child and Adolescent Services because she loves kids. In the near future she would like to have three sons and live in a loft in San Francisco.
I’m happy for Asia that she has a plan and once she graduates from Sac. She can start to work towards her other goals.
After Asia’s interview I talked to Taylor McClure. She plans to attend the Art Institute of San Francisco in September. She informed me that if college doesn’t work out she will be working at a local business. As of right now she does not want kids only a husband.
Im proud of Taylor for fallowing her passion for photography and would like to further her passion. She says she don’t want kids but I believe her husband will change her mind down the line.
As for myself I plan to attend CSU Long Beach and major in Physical Therapy. Further down the line I would like two kids a boy and a girl and be happily married. This is just an overview of my life and everything else still has to be written.
These are just three seniors at Sacramento Charter High School that are ready to graduate and pursue their dreams an ambitions. If your worried about other seniors just asks them and they will be more then willing to tell you….

Sacramento Kings switch cities?
The Sacramento Kings have till March 1st to decide if they’re moving to Anaheim for next season. The Maloof brother’s who own the Kings have been trying to stay away from questions about the arena changes. They have been saying the same thing over and over again “but we also want to concentrate on our team right now. Any of the arena stuff we’ll talk about later.” In my opinion, they really don’t want to talk about all the arena changes and details at all. They are just getting infuriated because people want answers and they don’t really have them or don’t want to tell people.
The only thing that they Maloof’s are hearing is about the Kings moving and how people really don’t want them to move cities. They are so irritated that they even try to change the subject when questions rise about the Kings’ move. The line they use to change the subject is “I get tired of answering all these questions can’t we talk about how much better DeMarcus Cousins is getting?” People really don’t care about DeMarcus’ improvement, so they want a straight answer if the Kings are going to leave Sacramento.
When reporters ask the Maloof brother’s the same typical questions they obviously don’t have any answers to them. The Maloof’s really needed to get their answers straight and ready because people are getting very impatient with them. The Maloof’s can’t have them waiting forever. The Maloof’s also requested an extension on their final decision and the NBA board has given them an extra extension till April. Obviously the Kings have not decided to officially move and they don’t have a deal because Anaheim isn’t providing any answers as well. The question stands, “Are the Kings moving cities or are they sticking with Sacramento?”

Bahrain Protest
On Monday Feburary 14, the ‘Day of Rage’ began in Bahrain Manama. There are a lot of young people protesting because of this. A quote from protestor says, “What happened in Egypt and Tunisia inspred us. For years, there has been hoplessness here, Are we ever really going to be able to change anything? With Egypt, there is sense of empowerment that the young people get.” He is saying that the Manama people are getting inspired by the Egypt and Tunisia protesting. I think that the Bahrain people are doing something they need to do. They are showing that they want their rights and want to see a change.
Ali Jassen a protestor stated this that is so true, “We don’t want to overthrow the ruling family; we just want to have our say.” Mr. Jassen is saying what every other protestor is stating. They just want their rights, and not take over the royal family.
I think that the royal family knows that they are not going to be overthrown, but they just don’t know what to do with the protests. There are conflicts between the royal family and the government so it would be hard to take care of the protests and its protesters. I think that the protesting is going to keep going if the people don’t get what they want

The NFL is considering a lockout for the 2011 season due to finances caused by the crazy fiscal crisis that we are in.
A reporter from ESPN reported on the possible lockout. "On a scale of 1 - 10 it's a 14," stated DeMaurice Smith, director of the National Football League Player's Association.
This demonstrates just how likely a lockout is. If the League decides to go through with this,m then many people will be affected.
John Ourand wrote an article about just this. "If the networks go into the fall without NFL fames, they will see huge drop offs in ratings and sales."
This lockout does not only affect the players, as shown by the quote those involved less directly will also feel the sting of the lockout. Putting aside the financial aspect, the fans need to be remembered in this situation. After all, it is them that truly make the league.

Robberies in Northern California Keep Shop Owners on Guard
On February 7, 20111 two unidentified men robbed a McDonald's and a Bonfare in northern Sacramento.
The two initial robberies happened in the early morning as an unknown reporter at cbs.com reports that "The two suspects apparently held up patrons and the clerk before taking off with an undisclosed amount of cash."
During the McDonald's robbery they took money from the register and the employees pocket then they took the manager's car keys and took his car.
While the two men were unidentified. "The men were described as black adults, one wearing a black jacket and the other one wearing a blue and white shirt."
Now obviously they won't be wearing the same thing every time and we lack a detailed description of the two besides their ethnicity so just take all safety precautions and be on the look out for these two men.

Sac High Rally
Sac High students were the total opposite of vivacious. Febuary 11, 2011 the basketball rally took place in the big gym, also known as the Dave Hotel pavillion. This rally was revolved around the basketball players, and shining the light on the them and their achievements. However, this rally was one of the most boring rallies, in SacHigh history, or as the students will say “WACK”. There were multiple activities in throughought the rally that only involved basketball players, giving the audience of about 1000 students sat in their hard, wooden, bleachers with nothing to do. The DJ Nathan French, senior class of 2011 played a good variety of music, but here was a lot of lows on the student participation level. One game that was great, that caught our attention was the “Cold Butt” game. “Popular” students from each class sat in black chairs in each corner of the gym. Not knowing, what was come to be, each participant had to sit in the chair and not get up throughout the whole rally, and halfway into the rally bags of ice was placed under their rear ends, as well as on top of their heads. This little form of entertainment kept the audience slightly on the ends of their seats. Another part of the rally, was a performance by Dance 1 and Dance 2, classes taught by Mrs.Chantou. The all girl group of about 12 students danced to the popular songs, “Cat Daddy by The Rejectz, “Shake it Like A Pom Pom by Missy Elliot, and the new song by Lil Wayne
“6 Foot 7 Foot”. This performance was original and fun, however the performance was at the end of the rally, giving the seniors another reason to not want to sit through it. To top off everything else , emcee Misster Chapel states, “Concluding our rally, don’t forget to come out to the girls basketball game as well as the dance, which starts at 7p.m.” Now what does this have to do with the rally you ask, soon after, the junior class starts to exit the gym, the senior class son follows behind. Viciously, activity coordinator Kevin Hood grabs a mic and says,“The rally is not over!!” The clock has striked 3:58, school ending at 4p.m., is this such a problem? Very disappointed with the senior class Hood decides there may be a consequence for thr “planning of the rally walk out”. This goes to show how much the school is so into students staying at school rather than their boredom at school rallies, which is a highlighted topic in meetings.

Black History Bio:
George Washington Carver
Since this is Black History month I felt that some of you should know about a man who was known as George Washington Carver.
George Washintgton Carver inventor , entreprenur , scientist , and botanist was a slave as young man. He came from the bottum , atrue rags to riches story.
Some of you may know him as the black man that made things ot of peanuts like peanut butter , shampoo , and other foods.
There was more to this man than you may know some journalists from http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Washington said, “ He wanted poor familiesto grow alternative crops both as a source of their own food and a source of other products , to improve their own products to improve quality life.
He obviously cared about others in the world and not just ways to make money.
Also in wikipedia, “ He also created or disseminated about over 100 products made from peanut that were useful for the house and farm including cosmetic, dyes, paints, plastics, gasoline, and nitroglycern.
Gorge Washington Carver was a man that will always be remembered , to be one of the first african americans to revolutionise with out violence.

Artist Profile: Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj has been recognized as a fashion stud for many people along with
others such as Lady Gaga, a fashion genius. Nicki has jump started
with producing her solo album, "Pink Friday". Nicki is a well decorated
music artist with alter egos and started her own “Barbie Movement.”
For example "On Nov. 18, 2010 Minaj assumed a different alter ego
named "Nicki Teresa". Her character is very expressive
and unique and also shows how vibrant she is to have multiple alter
egos. It shows how well situated in her career she is already with
only a year's experience in the spotlight. For example "she was most
recently rumored to be hooked up with Drake, and just this week her
debut album went platinum". Nicki Minaj is very well situated in her career with one year’s experience. Also, her albums and songs have impacted many fans throughout the world. Artist Profile: Christina Aguilera
During the Superbowl Christina Aguilera messed up while singing the National Anthem. Christina Aguilera quotes, “I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of it’s anthem came through.” Christina Aguilera is very sorry and very embarrassed that she messed up on live television. I understand why she messed up, and I would have done the same because it was LIVE TV and I can only imagine how nerve wrecking it is. She should know that she’s not the only who messed up on the National Anthem so she is not alone.
This quote from the Washington Post says, “Americans have spoken. And what they’ve said is this; Christina Aguilera, We cannot tolerate your assault on OUR National Anthem.” America is very “deviated” that a celebrity messed up a song that most Americans don’t know the words to.
In my opinion, Americans are taking this too far. This isn’t the first time a celeb messed up on this song. There are other things that other celebs have done worse then forgetting the National Anthem. Yet Americans can forgive them for what they have done, but they can’t forgive Christina Aguilera for her silly mistake.

Robert Garrett
This week in Sac High news Robert Garrett, center for varsity basketball team was interviewed on what it takes and how he made it on varsity. Rob says, "I've been playing basketball since was 5. My brother played ball, and he always took me and my other brother and ever since then I fell in love."
Rob has been playing basketball for many years and that has taken him a long way. All those years of playing basketball has paid off and has put him in a good position. I think this is important because he worked hard to get where he is and its not easy to do what he did to get there. I asked Rob if he had any set goals and he said, “I have achieved some of my goals like getting a full ride scholarship and improving as a varsity player, but I plan to win state championships." He must have been a good player to receive a full ride scholarship I thin that I and I can tell he is determined to accomplish his goals and is willing to do whatever it takes to get where he wants to be. I asked Robert Garrett for advice to give to a person wanting his position and to be on varsity and he said, "It takes hard work and effort to get anywhere in life.”

James Townsend
James Townsend, one of sac high’s varsity basketball forwards was interviewed about being on varsity and his plans for the future. I asked James how he felt about being on varsity. He said “I feel good because I have accomplished the highest level of high school basketball.” I definitely would agree and would also feel proud of myself. This shows that he has come a long way and is obviously good. The next question I asked was “What advice would you give to others trying to get where you are”. He replied “I would say focus on defense. Also focus on the small things details of your game because they can make a huge difference in the long run.” Once again I would have to agree with Mr. Townsend because the small things can definitely make a difference in the game. Don’t be afraid to do the small things no one else will. The last question I asked was “Where do you plan to be 10 years from now?” He answered “I plan on going to college at Occidental University and playing basketball. After I obtain my degree in political science, I plan on working on becoming a politician for California so I can affect many lives in a positive way.”
I think James has a promising future. He has goals and he knows what he wants to be in life. He could definitely be an inspiration for others. I think we need some smart people like him. Hopefully he does become a politician and can lead us in the right direction.

Seperation of Sudan
Last month, Southern Sudan votes to split from the north in Khartoum,
Sudan due to past conflicts and the need for peace.
As stated by the chairman of the Southern Sudan Referendum Commission,
98.83% voted for sepertation, while 1.17% voted for unity. This
illustrates that most Sudan citizens wanted to split because of
internal flaws as one country. One example of a flaw is the war
northerners (Arab Muslims) and the southerners (black Christians and
animists) have fought for a long two decades that resulted in decrease
in the population by two million. This sparked the idea of a peace
treaty in 2005, which has helped, a southerner states, them to gain
their rights and self-determination.
Another fact, even northern people wanted the vote. Abd al-Aziz Ahmad
states, "They can have their own country, and our problem...will
lessen." This shows that people may think the seperation is for the
better. Although, there are obviously people that believe seperation
may cause more problems, for both north and south. Southern Sudan will
flood with refugees and have significant numbers of mass killing to go
along with a lack of education. Northern Sudan, on the other hand,
will have a conflict with oil production, which the south dominates in
with oil reserves.
This seperation will bring a new country to the world, but the
question still remains the same, will it be better and decrease the
problems, or cause even more havic for both sides and result in no
peace and end to conflict.

“Fight for the Right to Sight”
Imagine being blind for thirty years. Not being able to see a
beautiful sunny spring day in May or which way you’re walking down the
street. Thanks to the world-famous Dr. Patricia E. Bath and her
outstanding invention, the “Laserphaco Probe”, Dr. Patrica Bath found
a way to treat and prevent visual impairments, starting as early as
age sixteen.
Dr. Patricia E. Bath, ophthalmologic surgeon, African-American
female inventor, and activist for patients’ rights, was born in
Harlem, New York in 1942. Dr. Bath excelled in high school and
college, where she completed her M.D. at age 26. At the age of just
forty-five, Dr. Patricia Bath’s belief that “everyone has the right to
sight” started her work on her invention: The Laserphaco Probe.
The Laserphaco Probe is a specialized tool and uses a unique
procedure for the removal of cataracts. Dr. Patricia Bath designed the
Laserphaco Probe with an optical laser, an irrigaton system and
several suction tubes. The Laserphaco Probe is operated by inserting
the laser into a tiny incision on the eye. The laser then vaporizes
the cataract and lens material, which is removed through the suction
tubes. Lastly, a replacement lens is then inserted on the eye.
With her invention, The Laserphaco Probe, Dr. Patricia E. Bath
helped restore the sight of several people who had been victimized by
blindness for up to thirty years. In additon to determination, hard
work, and focus, Dr. Patricia E. Bath persevered and overcame her
struggles by abiding by her motto:
“Believe in the power of truth… Do not allow your mind to be
imprisoned by majority thinking. Remember that the limits of science
are not the limits of imagination.”

All Snubbed Team: East vs East?
The McDonald's All American Game has been known to show an East Coast bias & they are showing it now more than ever with the selection of ONE West Coast player for the WEST team. There is not one player from California on the West Coast team. Strangely, Austin Rivers from Florida is included on the West team. Below is a link to a video which showcases some of the athletes who were passed up.

Toxic Bell?
Is Taco Bell really serving beef in their beef made products? Well a
few attorneys think not. They have some ideas that Taco Bell is using
a meat substitute instead. For example, “rather than beef these food
items are actually made with a substance known as taco meat filling.”
To consumers it is “disgusting”; it is too expensive to put real beef
in your products? Why would you feed people junk like that? You
wouldn’t even feed your own family this. This shows how little the
Taco Bell company cares about their customers. There has been research
saying that 35% of their meat was solid and just 15% overall is
protein. All of the meat products should have 40% actual meat; Taco
Bell has only 35%. This is important because 35% might be close, but I
think all customers who spend their hard earned money should have the
right to have the whole 40%, not just 35%. This is important to know
because many people don’t know that Taco Bell could possibly be
selling them false items that they think has meat in it, but it’s just
meat filling.
I feel that this is absolutely absurd because all of this time Taco
Bell has been falsely advertising their products saying that their
meat is 100% beef, when actually its not even the 40% needed just to
be qualified as actual meat. This really makes me want to never eat at
Taco Bell again because its terrible quality, and until they find a
way to fix this problem then they will never be considered a place I
can eat at. I feel its just gross to think that the meat you are
eating is not really meat. What do you all think Real or not Real.

Sac High Over the Years
Sacramento High School has been criticized a lot over the past eight years because the students displayed that they don't try as much to succeed in life. What people currently don't know is that the whole environment has changed, not just the school itself, but also the students. Mr. Gatling quoted, "The culture and pride of sac high has changed and students are more focused on going to college.” Ever since Sac High has changed into a charter school, it has made a big impact to students to make them understand that going to college isn’t just a game but it’s the next big step of their life.
The way that Sac High has changed not only affects the students, but also the teachers. Mr. Peacock states, "Now I teach all students in every small school, I get to meet other teachers, and the students are more interested in achieving.” He sees how students want to achieve more, and has a desire to teach for his students so they can succeed in their life. Sac high has changed so much, the culture is more diverse, and student are more productive. One thing that students did not like was the hours we stay in school, from 8:10 -4:00. Besides that, our school has progressed so much, and will continue to progress.

First Home Loss for our Dragons against Burbank
The Sacramento High School Dragons received their first loss on home court on February 1, 2011. The start of the game was phenomenal for the Dragons until the third quarter came along. The anticipation arises when the Luther Burbank Titans tie the game (59-59). The Dragons push through, but its not enough and the Titans over came the Dragons in the fourth quarter ending the game with the score of (80-74).
After the start of the third quarter, former player, James Townsend felt helpless and his frustration was building up. He quoted, “My team needed me on the court to take the win.” After being benched game after game, J.T. (#2) had no choice but to keep his positive attitude and his head held up high. He waits for his return to play in the next game on February 8, 2011.
Aaron Cameron fought his way to win this game but unfortunately didn’t succeed. A.C. (#10) felt angry and disappointed because he knew he could have done better to win it for the Dragons. He quoted that “Burbank does whatever it takes to win and they are really aggressive on the court.”
Robert Garret also had a huge impact in the game against Burbank that evening. He felt very angry because it was their first loss at home. He knew that Burbank has very talented athletes but RG (#25) keeps moving forward with his head up high. He believes that if the Sac High Dragons cover perimeter and gets those rebounds, they are capable of being unbeatable.

Lil Wayne: Does he even Care?
“Jail wasn’t as difficult as people think…Once you get over waking up every damn day in that mother f**ker its all good.” Music entertainer Lil Wayne, out of jail and on the loose, speaking about his sentence and indirectly telling his young fans that jail isn’t as hard as people make it seem. With comments such as these, is Lil Wayne influencing his younger audience into thinking that jail is not such a bad place to be?
While in prison, Wayne spent his final month in solitary confinement after he was caught with an Ipod charger in his cell and a MP3 player on his watch. Viewers question “If Lil Wayne actually tried to do something called rehabilitation while he was inside,” then why was he living the life of an outsider?
Rapper Wayne also claimed that while he was in prison, he also read the bible for the first time. Critics claim that the rapper’s response to what he read in the bible is “highly ignorant” and that “it is offensive to people who believe in God.” As a society we are left to wonder if Wayne even cares…

SuperBowl XLV
Superbowl XLV is a highly anticipated games with the Champions from the 2009 season the Pittsburg Steelers and the always great contenders (who have one a lot of championships in their day) GreenBay Packers.
The Packers always were in the playoff contenders, and with their history at their own field it was little doubt that they were not playing in the super bowl in dallas.
With a phenomanal quarter back ( Aaron Rodgers ) and an outstanding defense, the packers wouldn’t be a bad bet to win.
As we speak I am sure the Packers are working and training for that night under the lights.
A good fan of the Packers, De’Ja Williams , stated “ The packers are going to win because of their good season , and positive team spirit. “.
Steelers who won the Super Bowl two years ago are fired up and ready to go.
A fan of the steelers , Brian Kennedy , stated “ Ben Rothlesburger knows what he;s doing , plus hes experienced theres no way there going to lose “
But im sure the Packers have plans for this quaterback.
This is highly anticipated and should be fun to watch.

How Twitter Has Changed the World
“What’s Happening?” This is the question that Twitter has continually asked it’s users on a daily basis. Launching in 2006, twitter has become one of the most important social networking websites in our society today. It is a way to help keep in touch and get information from a vast majority of people and resources. Twitter helps its users to showcase an idea, joke, thought, or story to their followers.
Twitter has made social networking a more interesting game – for lack of a better word. With all the information that people are constantly updated their followers with every second, users can stay updated with what their friends are up to.
Other than the fact the twitter is slowly changing the world by keeping many people updated with vast information, twitter has also managed to work itself into our daily language. With different words such as “tweeting,” which refers to the act of updating twitter and “tweeple,” which are the people on twitter, we see that words such as these have changed some of the language of many people in today’s society. We see that more and more “tweeple” love to take out their mobile device during a conversation and say “I have to tweet that.” This is just one of the many examples of how twitter has somehow managed to throw itself into our society, and in such a short amount of time.

31 Dead in Moscow
On Monday,January 24, 20ll, there was a reported bombing in a Moscow airport. According to multiple reports, officials believeit was a terrorist attack. LA Times commented that the explosion “left at least 31 peopledead and more than 130 injured.”
What happened?
A CNN correspondent wrote “State TV, citing Russian authorities, said the bombing was an act of a suicide bomber who stuffed a home-made bomb with small metal objects to m ake it more deadly, then activated it in a small area where more people were waiting for arriving passengers.”
Let us take a flashback to past terrostist attacks in Russia.
In March of an unknown year, a female suicide bomber killed 38 people and woundedmore than 60. In Novemberof 2009, explosive devices killed 26 people.
So tell us, where is the secutiry who are being PAID to protect the citizens and how helpful are they?
“Yelena Galanova, spokesperson for the airport said that flights were arriving and departing as usual. But there was nothing usual about the fars taxi drivers at Domodedovo were reportedly charging immediately after the blast,” LA Times reports.
Everything went on as usual after these 20 minutes of destruction. But the question is how?
“President Obama called the bombing a ‘premaditated attack against innocent civilians’(CNN).” Someone else also stated that “to strike in the airport… to have such a devistating attack with such a tragic result, means that they planned this considerably well and gone ahead in achieving their aims (CNN).”
Why are all these terrorist attacks happening in Russia? What is the true aim of whoever is responsible? And what are going to be Russia’s next steps in dealing with these attacks?

iPhone vs iPhone
There has been a lot of excitement from the Verizon network over its release of it’s iPhone 4. Verizon and Apple announced that the iPhone 4 will be selling in Verizon stores on February 10, 2011. Even though this is great news for Apple and Verizon Users, it’s not so great for AT&T. AT&T will no longer be the sole provider of the hottest phone available.
The only major differences in Verizon’s iPhone is that it has a WIFI hotspot generator and an improved antenna for better reception but the price of purchase is much lower. Both iPhone carriers run on a 3G network; until one company decides to go to a 4G network. According to Reviews of Electronics website, “It’s not yet clear how many people will switch from AT&T to Verizon but some analysts believe the amount will be significant.” In today’s economy AT&T may lose some clients because the price of the iPhone on the Verizon network is significantly lower than AT&T’s.
Is it really a better decision to move to Verizon for the cheaper iPhone? In my opinion, I think not because you buy a technological gadget, and then in a few months or a year later, something faster and better will come right up and take its popularity. So now the gadget you just bought not too long ago is not so popular. Bloomberg Businessweek reports that “The carrier’s iPhone’s are nearly identical but where they differ, AT&T has the advantage.” AT&T is planning to debut Apple’s iPhone 5 in June or July the summer of 2011. So, did AT&T purposely let Verizon debut the iPhone 4 on their network now so that later in summer AT&T can have the spotlight for the iPhone 5? If this is the case, AT&T has the advantage of recovering the popularity for debuting the iPhone 5 later this year and maybe, as the famous Apple commercial states “Two is better than One”.
Some people might not renew their contract and some might even opt out of their contract with AT&T to switch to Verizon because its cheaper. But if they want to get the iPhone 5 they will have to go back to AT&T and pay even more than what they were paying originally. AT&T is smarter because they will make more profit with selling the iPhone 5. Then again there are some people that were on Verizon’s network and they wanted the iPhone so they had to switch to AT&T. This makes these customers mad and angry because they keep switching and losing money just to keep up with the technology.

Console Wars
The debate about what game console is better has been going on since the PS3 and the Xbox 360 release about three years ago. They have fought to be voted best from its users but the winner is yet to be decided. The sleek and impressive PS3, & the high tech and innovative Xbox 360, the battle between these two game consoles is still occurring.
The PS3 and Xbox 360 are total opposites. The PS3 focused more on their muti-purpose functions. Meanwhile the Xbox 360 focused more on making many features better than the other but it did not try to be a well rounded game console.
Even though the PS3 and the Xbox cost around the same price, Sony’s PS3 is a little more pricey. The PS3 does have its benefits that make up for what the Xbox does not yet have. Unlike Xbox 360, the PS3 does not charge for online game play because it does not have dedicated servers like the Xbox 360. The PS3 does a lot more than the Xbox 360 regarding its mulit-purpose use. For example, the PS3 has a built-in blu-ray player and the Xbox doesn’t. The PS3 is able to play high definition movies in blu-ray and Xbox 360 does not offer this extra function. It’s not just any blu-ray player, cnet.com states, ''We've had some time to put the PS3 through our blu-ray suite.” The blu-ray on the PS3 is quieter than the DVD player on the Xbox 360, so most people prefer the quieter system. Another one of the many features that the PS3 has that the Xbox 360 lacks is the ability to browse the internet straight from the system. You can go on any website or browse through the internet straight from the system. The most you can do on the Xbox 360 is update your status on Facebook or Twitter. On the other hand, the Xbox has been voted for having the best of graphics. Beyond3D.com reports about the system specs, the Xbox contains 3.2GHz IBM Central processor, and also contains 500MHz ATI Graphic Processor. This information proves that the Xbox graphics contain a great color variety, compared that to the Ps3 making the murky colors dark, and the pleasant colors, nice and limpid. It also contains HDMI imputs for an HDTV, so it makes your graphics look even better on your television screen. There are types of games that you can get on one system but not the other. For example, games called the Halo series, Gears of war trilogy, and many more are only for the Xbox 360. For the PS3 games you can play; God of War, Final Fantasy, and more. The PS3 has a better multi purpose use that can be very handy but the Xbox has the better graphics and better games. In my view the better games and graphics are more important than browsing the internet. Xbox 360 has features that the PS3 does not have and till this day they are still competing to be the champion.
